Olympus unveils the latest M.Zuiko Digital Lens Roadmap, update for the development of M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO, Bird Detection AF for the E-M1X and an OM-D webcam beta version
Olympus continues enhancing its M.Zuiko lens lineup to make full use of the unrivaled portability of the compact and lightweight Micro Four Thirds System with its high image quality. The Lens Roadmap has been updated. Additionally, there is an update on the M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO lens which was announced in January, 2019. Development of this lens continues and is estimated to be released this winter. The final design of the product, however, is already available.
OM-D E-M1X photographers can look forward to a firmware update with Bird Detection AF. It is anticipated for winter 2020.
The tethered compatible OM-D models can now also be used as a webcam for video conferences. The necessary software is free and available for download as a beta version.
The latest M.Zuiko Digital Lens Roadmap
The Lens Roadmap was updated with more information regarding the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm F4.0 PRO and a Macro lens has been added.
Update: M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC 1.25x IS PRO
The development of the high-resolution M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC 1.25x IS PRO super telephoto zoom lens with built-in 1.25x teleconverter was announced in January 2019. It is currently moving toward the scheduled release of this winter. The final design of the product is now available.
Future firmware upgrade to support Bird detection AF
Olympus is working on a firmware update for the E-M1X: Bird Detection will be added to the Intelligent Subject Detection AF. The firmware update is scheduled for release in winter 2020.
OM-D webcam beta version
The OM-D beta version allows users to convert their E-M1X, E-M1, E-M1 Mark II, E-M1 Mark III and E-M5 Mark II to a webcam. Simply download the free software, connect the OM-D to your PC via USB, switch on the camera and set it to tethered mode, turn on a web conferencing application and select “OM-D Webcam Beta” in the app’s settings.
